Why should you buy Real Estate on Pine Island, Florida?  Because purchasing a home, or property, on Pine Island is more than a real estate investment...it's your ticket to a whole new way of life!  Whether you're looking for luxury homes for sale, or waterfront cottage getaways with canal access -- there is always something fitting for sale in the Pine Island real estate market.

Pine Island is an idyllic retreat of an island located in Lee County, Florida, on the Gulf coast of Southwest Florida.  The Intracoastal Waterway passes through Pine Island Sound, to the west of the island.  Matlacha Pass runs between Pine Island and the mainland.  Pine Island lies just a few miles west of bustling Cape Coral, yet its lifestyle and culture prove Pine Island to be a whole world away from whatever your preconceived notions of life in Southwest Florida may be.

Pine Island is seventeen miles long, making it the largest island on Florida's west coast.  It is also one of Florida's last undiscovered secrets -- It has not been developed beyond recognition.  There are no high-rises or major resorts, just picturesque "Old Florida" and all the charm that comes with it.

Pine Island consists of five separate communities: Matlacha, Bokeelia, Pine Island Center, Pineland, and St. James City.

Matlacha is an arts and fishing community.  Funky art galleries and eateries, in a kaleidoscope of colors, bump shoulders with bait shops and the "fishingest bridge in the world" which crosses Matlacha Pass.  Matlacha is truly on "Island Time" and offers the type of laid back lifestyle hard to find in our modern world.

Bokeelia, located at Pine Island's northern end, is the site of several historic buildings and the place many of the Island's commercial fishermen call home.  This community looks across the huge bay of Charlotte Harbor all the way to Boca Grande Pass (the Tarpon Capital of the World).  There are marinas, restaurants, fishing piers, and natural splendour all doing their small part to define Bokeelia as a great place to live.

Pine Island Center is the interior community of Pine Island and the hub of all the commercial activity occurring there.  This is where you'll find Pine Island's main shopping center, elementary school, a modern library, the Museum of the Islands, medical and dental offices, and the Island's main fire station.

Pineland is the most archeologically-significant portion of Pine Island.  It was the location of one of the largest and oldest native Florida settlements, established at least 2,000 years ago and used by a slowly evolving sequence of cultures, most notably -  the Calusa Indians.  Pineland is home to the Florida Museum of Natural History's Randell Research Center, an archeological center and trail system devoted to the study of the original Calusa Indian settlement at Pineland.  Calusa shell mounds and remnants of their canal system are visible from the trail.  Pineland is also home to the Tarpon Lodge, the Pineland Marina, and American author Randy Wayne White (creator of the Doc Ford series of books).

St James City occupies the southern tip of Pine Island, facing San Carlos Bay and Sanibel Island.  Restaurants, live music, super fishing.  St James City is the most developed section of Pine Island, and holds over half the Island's population.  Most of the homes here are located on direct access canals leading to the Gulf of Mexico.
